Chargebacks can be a confusing process, but it is important to understand how they work and what you can do to win them. Here we will explain the basics of chargebacks and how you can dispute a chargeback.

What is a Chargeback?

A chargeback is when a bank or card issuer reverses a transaction that has already been processed. This can happen if the cardholder disputes a charge, if there is a problem with the transaction, or if the cardholder was not authorized to make the purchase.

How Does the Chargeback Process Work?

When a chargeback is filed, the card issuer contacts both the merchant and the cardholder to ask for information about the transaction. The merchant will need to provide evidence that the charge was legitimate and that the cardholder authorized the purchase. The cardholder will need to provide evidence that they did not authorize the purchase or that there was a problem with the transaction.

If the card issuer determines that the chargeback is valid, they will reverse the transaction and the merchant will need to refund the money to the cardholder. If the card issuer determines that the chargeback is not valid, they will deny it and the merchant will keep the money.

How to Win a Chargeback?

There are several things you can do to increase your chances of winning a chargeback:

- Make Sure You Are Able to Provide Receipts or Other Documents: In order to win a chargeback, you need to be able to provide receipts or other proof that the customer authorized the purchase. If you are selling products online, you can request delivery information before processing the transaction in case you are ever required to prove that delivery took place.

- Report Fraudulent Transactions: If you notice any suspicious or unauthorized transactions, report them to your bank or card issuer as soon as possible. This can help improve your chances of winning a chargeback if the purchase is later disputed.

- Check Your Account History: Make sure you review your account history regularly and contact your bank or card issuer if you see any transactions that you do not recognize. This can help prevent fraudulent chargebacks from being filed against your account.

- Better Business Bureau (BBB) Verified: If your business is BBB Accredited, it may be easier to win disputes because customers are encouraged to resolve complaints with the BBB before filing chargebacks.

Chargebacks

can be a complex process, but by understanding how they work and following the tips mentioned above, you can increase your chances of winning them. If you have any further questions, please contact your bank or card issuer for more information.
