ARE YOU A VICTIM, A SURVIVOR, OR A VALUED ACHIEVER?

How would you best describe yourself?
How would those who know you best describe you?
How will those who don’t even know you describe you?

ANY ANSWERS YET?

We all form opinions of others, irrespective of whether we know anything about them.
Those at the table across the restaurant, leaning against the bar in the pub?
Someone walking towards you in the street, when it’s dark and there’s no one else around?

You are hard-wired to judge others – for your safety and your survival.
You can’t turn it off – it’s always switched on, whether you like it or not.

YOU ARE BEING JUDGED ON EVERYTHING YOU SAY AND DO

AND THE FIRST PLACE YOU’RE JUDGED WILL LIKELY BE YOUR CV OR LINKEDIN!!

So what impression are you creating, day by day, in your job applications and in your online presence?
You might think your CV is as good as it can be, as good as you can make it, or perhaps no worse than anyone else has!
Sadly, that last point typifies most executive CVs. There can be nothing worse for your future than being perceived as consistent with the poorest presented.
As your CV only enjoys a 2 – 7 second first glance, it has a massive job to do; and in that short time, you expect someone to identify you as worthy of a second glance.

So, why should they?

What makes you stand out – different or better than the competition?
If you are basing everything on hope – it’s misplaced.
It’s time to get help. You can’t afford to risk your future any longer.

WHAT ABOUT LINKEDIN THOUGH?

Let’s assume that you’ve got a great CV, but potential recruiters/employers then look deeper into your online activity – what might they find?
Political comment that doesn’t align with their own?
Complaints about the recruitment industry, that will not endear them to you? Complaints about low responses to hundreds of applications? Would that make you stand out as worth taking a closer look at?

Complaints about a bias against those aged over 50’s; those with no qualifications, or too many job changes; or those seeking permanent roles following a series of interims?

BEWARE THE IMPRESSION YOU ARE CREATING ONLINE.

Don’t forget, we all form opinions from what we see or hear – and recruiters do exactly the same.

DON’T DECEIVE YOURSELF – AND AVOID TRYING TO DECEIVE OTHERS

Hiding from reality serves no one, least of all you and everyone important to you.
If you think you can overcome it by trying harder, you probably won’t.
If you’re worried about it hindering you or your future, it’s time to do something about it before it does.

IT’S YOUR FUTURE – DOES IT MATTER TO YOU?

If now isn’t the right time – how much worse must things get before it is?

If now is the right time, we ought to speak soon.
